Bowls Association
THE WILTSHIRE MASONIC BOWLS ASSOCIATION
The Wiltshire Masonic Bowls Association was formed in May 1946 with the objectives of bringing together Wiltshire Brethren in friendship and Bowling sportsmanship and to provide support to Masonic and non-Masonic Charities.
The Association maintains a very high standard of bowls. Over recent years they have continued to make donations to the three Wiltshire hospices; Prospect House (Swindon), Dorothy House (Winsley) and
As well as ‘domestic’ and other inter Province competitions the Province have joined the newly formed Cotswold Masonic Inter Province Bowls League, which includes the Provinces of Buckinghamshire, North Hants., Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire and Northamptonshire winning the first years competitions.

The past year has been one of transition, and adjustment. At last year’s AGM W Bro Peter Jones retired after 10 years sterling service as President of the Association, in addition the Treasurer, W Bro Danny Gibbon, Secretary W Bro Peter Bradbury, Match Secretary W Bro Reg Henery also retired.
The following Officers were appointed at the AGM, W Bro Arthur Lawrence (Administrative Secretary), W Bro Phil Brown (Fixtures Secretary) and Bro Lee Spreadbury (Treasurer).
Once again a full Season of bowling was enjoyed by all members. During the year a total of 10 matches were played, 6 matches against other Provinces:
We lost against Gloucester, North Hampshire, Somerset, (Away) Berkshire, and won against Somerset (Home) and Oxford. Sadly our Masonic Bowls game against Bristol had to be cancelled owing to the death “on the green” at NWBC of a visiting W Bro from Paulton (near Bristol). A number of Officers and Brethren from WMBA attended his well represented funeral.
Following the success of last years Bowls Matches against local Bowls Clubs (Non Masonic) we were successful against Devizes and Shrivenham Bowls Club, and lost against Pewsey and North End Bowls Club. Next year it is planned to invite a rink of ladies when playing some local clubs.
Competiton Results
Singles Champion : W Bro Tom Hinde was the outright winner (4 games).
Runner Up: There were a number players who won 3 out of 4 games the winner on a count-back was W Bro Bob Roberts-Phare
Pairs Champion and Stan Iles Cup : This Competition was cancelled owing to lack of entries.
Triples Champions and the “Harry C.Preater Cup” : Eight triples were entered. The Winning Triples from Lodge of Remembrancewere W Bro Danny Gibbon, W Bro Peter Jones and W Bro Reg Henery from Methuen Lodge.
Runners up : from Moonrakers Lodge were Bro’s Ashley Ponting and Paul Heath and Lee Spreadbury from Windsor Castle Lodge.
