Provincial Festival 2017

The Masonic Samaritan Fund is one of the four recognised principal Masonic charities; the others being the Grand Charity, the Royal Masonic Trust for Girls and Boys and the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution.

Each of the four Masonic charities is funded through Provincial, Lodge and individual donations.  A Province, or indeed a number of Provinces, hold a Festival, normally covering five years, which raises funds for one of the Masonic charities,

In 2012, Wiltshire was asked to support the Masonic Samaritan Fund.

Our Festival period is from October 2012 to October 2017 and we have 'promised' to raise £750,000 during this time.

The Masonic Samaritan Fund 2017 Wiltshire Festival

Image

The Masonic Samaritan Fund provides health and care grants for applicants to receive treatment and care without undue delay or expense.

Freemasons initiated into a Lodge under the English Constitution, their wives, partners, widows and dependents can apply for a grant if they have a diagnosed health or care need and, faced with over 12 weeks wait for treatment or support, are unable to easily afford their own private care.

Grants are available to fund medical treatment or surgery, functional dental treatment, mobility aids and equipment, respite breaks, counselling and consultations or assessments.

As well as providing grants to cover the associated costs of a diagnosed health or care need, the Masonic Samaritan Fund supports medical research projects which aim to improve the treatment for many of the illnesses and disabilities that affect Masonic families and the wider community.

"You really can make a difference"

Raymond Lance Chapter Rose Croix No.1015

ImageThe Wiltshire Masonic Family includes many Orders beyond the Craft and members of the Orders contribute so much to Freemasonry in the Province, they are also tremendously supportive of the Masonic Charities including the Masonic Samaritan Fund.

It therefore came as no surprise when the Raymond Lance Chapter Rose Croix No.1015 meeting in Warminster made a donation of £250.00 towards the Masonic Samaritan Fund 2017 Wiltshire Festival.

This is the fifth Rose Croix Chapter to support the Masonic Samaritan Fund 2017 Wiltshire Festival.

Festival Chairman Peter Winton in thanking the Inpsector General - Francis Wakem, said "The fantastic support given to the Festival by members of The Ancient and Accepted Rite is quite humbling - many members are also connected with other Masonic Orders and I know the funds they raise come from one pocket; the same pocket which raises money in a Lodge, Chapter, Conclave or Preceptory.  I can only say thank you but often it really does seem an inadequate response to such generosity"

Provincial Festival

Since the launch of the 2017 Festival on 4th October 2012, Wiltshire Freemasons have already raised just over £600,000 towards the Masonic Samaritan Fund 2017 Festival.

Amazing events such as Festive Board Raffles, Golf Days, Quiz Nights, Race Nights and ad hoc collections have raised sums large and small all of which contribute to the success of our festival.

You too can play a part by organising an event in your Lodge, or by joining forces with another Lodge and combining your talents, time and opportunity to have even more fun.

Speak to the Lodge Charity Steward with any ideas you might have, but don't forget to let the Communciation Team know what you are up to.

The MSF Changes

The Presidents of the four central Masonic Charities (The Freemasons' Grand Charity, The Royal Masonic Trust for Girls and Boys, The RMBI and the MSF) have led a review of their work which has recommended that:

  1. the charities be consolidated into a new, single organisation.
  2. the new charity will provide the full range of support currently available to Freemasons and their families;
  3. a new name (yet to be determined) will be given to the consolidated charity, which will support both Masonic and non-Masonic giving.
  4. the new charity will become operational in 2016.
  5. all Festivals concluding in 2022 and beyond will support the new charity, with existing Festival Appeals continuing as planned.
  6. a single President, Trustee board, Chief Executive and staff will administer the new charity, with members of the Craft included in its governance.
