Gary Dolphin captures the glory of the Cathedral Express

Image

Gary Dolphin is a keen and very enthusiastic observer of steam locomotives having enjoyed many youthful hours 'collecting train numbers' particularly those connected to his native Yorkshire.  It should come as no surprise that he is a member of Gooch Lodge No. 1295 named after Sir Daniel Gooch the GWR's Chief Engineer.

Moving from 'God's own county' to Swindon the 'spiritual' home of the Great Western Railway, more appropriately known as 'God's Wonderful Railway' it is little wonder that Gary feels as if he is in locomotive heaven.  Whenever he needs a 'steam fix' he can leave the shop and wander across the road to Swindon's famous Steam Museum or experience the thrill of walking through the Outlet Centre formerly the Swindon Railway Workshops.

Thanks are also due to Adrian Wooster - Highworth Lodge No.9009 for his considerable technical skill in enhancing the quality of the image.

Adrian Wooster provides image of Lacock

One of the beautiful images used on the front page of the Provincial website is that of Lacock Abbey located in the quaint English village of Lacock the setting for many fine period dramas.  This new image has been provided by Adrian Wooster of Highworth Lodge No.9009.

A visit to Lacock (owned and managed by The National Trust) is a 'must do' when travelling in our wonderful Province.

We are always delighted when our team of photographers submit new images for either the website or Across the Plain and this latest study from Adrian Wooster of Highworth Lodge No.9009 is yet another superb example of a well know Wiltshire landmark, in this case Avebury Church located just off the A4 at Beckhampton and close by Silbury Hill.
