Wyvern Lodge No 8620 - father and son enjoy special moment

W Bro Chris Spender had the pleasure of initiating his son Danny into the Wyvern Lodge No 8620

 8620

Danny is a former soldier having joined the Army at the age of 17. Postings in Kosovo, Northern Ireland and Afghanistan followed and it was during his third tour to Afghanistan that he suffered severe wounds leading to the loss of both legs.

It was at this point his father informed the Lodge Almoner of his son’s terrible injuries. A laptop computer was despatched to his bedside and from this his first contact with Wyvern Lodge was made.

Danny’s connection with Freemasonry and Wyvern Lodge began earlier in his life, when his father became a Mason; despite his fathers’ regular disappearances he developed a desire to know what it took to become a Freemason. The result was clear for all to see when on Saturday 14 April 2012 he was initiated.

To say it was an emotional experience would be an understatement, as it surely passed all expectations. W Bro Chris Spender exchanged places with the WM Michael Mossman to install his son, his son’s Seconder W Bro David Carpenter, his uncle W Bro Colin Spender of Vortigern Lodge No 4854 were all part of a wonderful ceremony.

In attendance to witness this occasion were the PGM of Wiltshire RW Francis Wakem and the Asst PGM W Bro Phillip Bullock.

The Provincial Grand Master commenting on the evening said “that from start to finish, a man could not have had a better introduction for any new happening in his life than Daniel Spender on his Initiation
