Thynne Chapter

Lord Henry Thynne was installed as Grand Superintendent on 3rd September 1875 an Office he held for 16 years.

In 1881 the Thynne Chapter was consecrated at the Town Hall Warminster by EComp Col Shadwell Clerke, Grand Scribe Ezra. Clearly Lord Henry was delighted that the first Chapter to be consecrated after establishing Provincial Grand Chapter should be in Warminster and bear his family name.

Since this Chapter was destined to fail it was somewhat unfortunate that this happened in 1902, two years before his death in 1904.

Thynne Chapter was re-consecrated in 1921 by Jacob 6th Earl of Radnor, Grand Superintendent (1901 – 1926).  The Chapter continues to thrive and goes from strength to strength.

The Festive Season Comes Early To Thynne Chapter

The Provincial Grand Chapter of WiltshireTravelling Quaich made its long journey down the A350 from Chippenham to Warminster on Thursday 23rd November, accompanied by 8 Companions from the Lansdowne Chapter of Unity. This was handed over with due ceremony to Thynne Chapter for their safe keeping until it was due to go to the Chapter of Harmony in Devizes next year.

The Companions from Lansdowne, together with nearly 40 other Companions, were then treated to a superb Exaltation Ceremony by Thynne Chapter, which included a cameo appearance by the Grand Superintendent, Excellent Companion John Reid, as Scribe Nehemiah and an explanation of the ceremony read out by their newest Grand Officer, Excellent Companion Michael Mossman.

It was a slightly bemused exaltee, Companion John Hughes, who took his place at the top table at the festive board, to find himself sitting next to Past Grand Superintendent, Excellent Companion Ian Jacobs, and everybody ready for a special occasion.  He soon got into the ‘spirit’ of things however when the Quaich was duly charged with a 12 year old Malt Whisky by Lansdowne Director of Ceremonies, Excellent Companion Russell Evans, and passed around for all companions to join in the celebrations.

The evening was finished off in fine style by a series of formal toasts and fraternal friendship.

Longleat Quartet in Fine Form at Thynne Chapter Installation.

Companions of Thynne Chapter No.1478 and their visitors witnessed an excellent Installation Convocation last night in Warminster which received very high praise from the Deputy Grand Superintendent EComp Colin Cheshire who was the Presiding officer.

Many congratulations to the Installing Principal Rob Evans who installed his successor Lindsay Young in a flawless manner.  In turn the new MEZ EComp Lindsay Young and his co-principals: Haggai John Caple and Joshua James Lowe carried out their parts of the ceremony in an exemplary fashion.

This was an all “1478” affair with all four Companions not only belonging to Thynne Chapter No.1478 by also member of Longleat Lodge No.1478.
